Dave Huntley

As part of the photo journalist team at the ITE this summer it has been offered to me to have a chance on a lathe turning wood.  Last Saturday I took advantage of this opportunity to learn from new friends what it is like to turn a piece of raw, green wood into something else.  It was fantastic.  First, Luc helped me make a ‘blank’.  He then showed me the basic theories of using the tools.  Throughout the morning he and Jay kept a watch over me so as I would not hurt myself.  I will never forget the feeling of peeling away these long strands of wood while my art was spinning on the lathe in front of me.

I think that I smiled all morning.  Thanks to my new friends for their help and encouragement and sharing their skills with me.
